Layla May Arthur

Layla May is a promising young Jersey artist who secured an internship with renowned Danish paper cutting artist Karen Bit Vejle. Layla May first encountered and was inspired by Bit Vejile’s work through the incredible Paper Dialogues exhibition at the St. Helier Town Hall in 2016 whilst a student at Hautlieu.

Layla May, now studying fine art at the Minerva Art Academy in the Netherlands, has since spent 500 hours painstakingly creating twelve two-metre long paper-cut panels, taking viewers on a journey through Jersey’s 12 parishes and Layla’s young memories of them.

We’re proud to have been able to support Layla in her development as an artist through a Seed Funding grant, and we’re sure that the panels, currently on display at Centre for Papercutting in Denmark, will be something that the island will be really proud to showcase on an international stage.
