The search is on to find a local artist to travel to Uganda and create original work in response to the country …

ArtHouse Jersey is delighted to announce its intention to commission a Jersey artist to travel to Rwanda to make original work in response to the country, its people and its culture, whilst also reflecting on Jersey and our own traditions.

This opportunity is being funded by External Relations in the Government of Jersey in support of Jersey’s developing bilateral relationship with Rwanda.

The commissioned artist will travel to Rwanda later this year and spend two weeks researching the local culture and arts scene, taking inspiration from contemporary and traditional art forms. They will seek to integrate with the local arts community, working with an identified local Rwandan artist. On their return to Jersey the artist will create the new artwork on-Island.

Applicants for this opportunity will need to be adaptable and highly organised, able to work in an unfamiliar environment. We are ideally looking for someone who is self-motivated and keen to discover Rwanda through their own research and tenacity.

This is a paid commission with all flights, accommodation, materials and subsistence also paid for.

To apply, please send your artistic resume, three examples of your work, a 500-word proposal of how you would embrace this experience, an overview of what you would seek to make/do, and why you should be selected.

The deadline for expressions of interest is 10am Thursday 1 August 2019. Please send your application to info@arts.je.

Should you have any questions please email tom@arts.je in the first instance.
