Self-isolating queer pop artist addresses coronavirus and social media addiction in new single
How to squeeze coronavirus, Instagram addiction, global warming and Brexit into the same song? Rhumba Club addresses all these issues in a 3-minute synth-pop track, aided by a Pet Shop Boys-esque lyric. Recorded in self-isolation, “2020” portrays a confused and chaotic planet mid-crisis. Set against a backdrop akin to big 80s dance numbers, Rhumba Club puts the current atmosphere to beats, resulting in a timely political bop.
The homemade lyric video shows Tom Falle (aka Rhumba Club) performing at home, framed by a border of rolling hygiene instructions (“Use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available”, for instance). The visuals were created in partnership with digital artist Ryan Vautier, fresh from working on videos for The 1975 and Grimes.
ArtHouse Jersey is a keen supporter of Tom Falle and Rhumba Club has been a recipient of one of the Seed Funding grants.
